How to Use: GreenEZ Furniture Stripper

Stripping old paint, varnish, or other coatings from furniture can be a daunting task. GreenEZ's Furniture Stripper offers an eco-friendly, non-toxic solution that simplifies this process.

This guide will walk you through the steps to effectively use this powerful product and achieve excellent results specifically on wood surfaces.

Step 1: Preparation

Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

  • GreenEZ Furniture Stripper

  • Scraper (plastic or metal, depending on surface)

  • Protective gloves

  • Protective mask

  • GreenEZ Finishing Cleaner

  • Fine Steel Wool & Clean cloths

Safety First: Always work in a well-ventilated area. Wear gloves to protect your hands and a mask to avoid inhaling any dust or debris.

Step 2: Check the Coating Type

Not all coatings react the same way, so take a moment to confirm:

  • If you know the coating: Confident it’s something GreenEZ can handle? Go ahead and apply to the full surface.

  • If you’re unsure of the coating: Perform a spot test on a small, hidden section first. This ensures effectiveness and helps you avoid unnecessary mess or wasted product.

GreenEZ Furniture Stripper is effective on:

  • Latex paint

  • Oil-based paint

  • Chalk paint

  • Polyurethane

  • Shellac

  • Varnish

  • Lacquer

Step 3: Apply the Stripper

  • Shake Well: Make sure the Furniture Stripper is fully mixed before use.

  • Apply a Thick Coat: Use a brush or roller to generously coat the surface. The thicker the layer, the deeper and more effective the stripping action.

Step 4: Let It Work

  • Wait 30–45 Minutes: Allow the stripper to penetrate and lift the coating. Tougher finishes may need longer.

  • No Plastic Wrap Needed: The new formula no longer requires covering with plastic. Simply apply and let it work.

Tip: If you’re working outside in hot sun or high winds, move the surface to a shaded protected area to ensure maximum effectiveness.

Step 5: Remove the Coating

  • Scrape Away: Use a scraper to lift off the softened paint or finish. Work in even strokes, starting from one edge.

  • Reapply if Needed: Some stubborn or layered coatings may require a second application.

Tip: For stuck or hard to remove coatings, spray Finishing Cleaner on the surface prior to scraping and allow it to sit for 2-5 minutes. This will further loosen stuck coatings and make it easier to get in a single scrape.

Step 6: Clean Up

  • Use Finishing Cleaner: Apply GreenEZ Finishing Cleaner to the stripped surface and let sit for 1-2 minutes before wipe away any residue with your fine grade steel wool scrubbing the surface gently. Follow with another spray of Finishing Cleaner and wipe clean with a cloth or rag.

  • Rinse & Dry: Rinse the surface with a damp towel if necessary and allow the surface to dry fully before sanding or applying a new stain, paint, or sealer.

Use Cases

  • Antique Furniture: Restore without damaging the underlying wood.

  • Cabinets & Doors: Strip away paint or varnish cleanly.

  • DIY Projects: Refinish or repurpose with confidence and comfort.

Troubleshooting Residual Coatings

Still seeing some stubborn finish? Apply another coat, allow time to work, and scrape again. Make sure to use enough product and allow proper wait time for best results.
