A swatch on a screen can't tell you that. Your own wood can. So we put four Evolve colors in 4 oz jars: Rustic Stone, Summer Leaf, Fossil Black, and Pantheon White. Test each one on the actual piece, pick your favorite, then order the full-size can with confidence.
Evolve is our soy-based, semi-translucent wood stain. It soaks into the grain instead of sitting on top, needs no pre-stain conditioner, and cleans up with soap and water. Made in Illinois.

THE TEST PATCH
Shake each jar well. Use a color straight from the jar, or blend two in a dish to make your own.
Sponge or brush a small patch of each color onto a hidden spot of bare wood and rub it into the grain. Let it soak in 15 to 30 minutes.
Wipe off the excess with a soft cotton cloth and let it dry. Dry color reads lighter than wet, so judge it dry, then order your full-size can.

WHY IT WORKS
CUSTOMER PHOTO01MIX YOUR OWN
Every Evolve color mixes, so the pack doubles as a blending kit. Try two colors together on a scrap, or layer one over another for depth.
“Mixed aged rock and Amazonian bark to get the perfect MCM table stain. Love this stuff.”
CUSTOMER PHOTO02NO PRIMER
Evolve's soy oil base carries the color deep into the grain and conditions the wood as it goes. No primer, no pre-stain conditioner. Just open a jar and test.
“It didn't smell and was very forgiving to work with.”
CUSTOMER PHOTO03STAIN INDOORS
Minimal odor means you can run your test patches indoors and keep using the room. The color is UV resistant, so it holds up on outdoor pieces too.
“The color was what I was looking for! Easy to work with... Was able to use the room almost immediately.”
WHY GREENEZ
Built by a dad who got sick of what the job put in the air.
GOT QUESTIONS?
Everything to know before you test.
4 oz, which covers about 15 sq ft. That's enough for several test patches, or a small project like a picture frame, a step stool or a jewelry box.
Four Evolve colors: Rustic Stone (922), Summer Leaf (931), Fossil Black (933) and Pantheon White (936). One 4 oz jar of each.
Every species takes stain differently. Oak, pine, maple and walnut can turn the same color into four different looks, and a swatch on a screen can't show you that. A test patch on your actual piece can.
Pick a hidden spot, like the underside or the back of the piece, and make sure it's clean, bare and dry. Shake the jar well, brush or sponge on a small patch, and rub it into the grain. Let it soak in 15 to 30 minutes, then wipe off the excess with a soft cotton cloth. Work between 45°F and 90°F.
No. Evolve's soy oil base carries the color deep into the grain and conditions the wood as it goes. Start with clean, bare, dry wood and wipe it on.
Once it's fully dry. Wet stain reads darker than the finished color. For the truest read, seal the test spot with Furniture Shield after 6 to 8 hours, since a clear coat deepens the color a little.
Yes. Every Evolve color mixes, so the pack doubles as a blending kit. Try two colors together in a dish, or layer one over another for depth. Test your mix on a hidden spot first.
Every color in the pack comes full size in a pint (about 62 sq ft) or a quart (about 125 sq ft). A pint handles most side tables and chairs, and a quart is the better pick for a dresser, a tabletop or cabinets. Shop full-size Evolve.
No. Evolve's Safety Data Sheet lists no chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer or reproductive harm, and it carries no hazard signal word. We still recommend gloves and safety glasses while you work.
